caterpillars

i caught 20 tent worms. they turn into mothes. my mom thought that they would surely die but this is what i did:

1. i put fat sticks in the butterfly cage that i put them in for them to crawl on and make their cocoons on.( they didn't even touch 'em.)

2. i picked leaves off of the crab apple and peach trees and put them in a plastic sandwich bag with some water in it.(NOT TOO MUCH!) the leaves need to be wet and not dry because the tent worms get their water from the leaves. then i sealed the bag closed and put it in the refrigerator.

3.every day i got the bag out and took the leaves out.(they should be dripping with water and cold so you could just shake the leaves so it stops dripping. i won't do anything.)

my mom was wrong. slowly, every day i would wake up and there would be one or two more cocoons. now i have 20 cocoons and i am just waiting for them to come out and be mothes!

surprise!today i just found ANOTHER Caterpillar in the cage. it is WAY different then the others. it is not a tent worm and we can't think of any Caterpillar it could possibly be! but any ways,now i have 21 caterpillars! we think that i picked a leaf that it was on and i put it in the cage.

i will write when a moth comes out of a cocoon.
